The Challenges Lab

This is the place to practice coaching each of the challenges from The Challenges Inventory™ (described below), mentored in a small group setting that is ideal to help you understand the tricks and the traps.

Each month we will take a specific Challenge, explore areas of coaching impacted by it, and practice coaching them weekly. Some of the content from Skills and Drills™ will overlap, but the lens through which we look will differ.

Examples of SOME of the things we will explore in Challenges Lab:

  • Differentiating between time & transition struggles – and how to coach them
  • The 3 phases of transition management: where clients get stuck – and how that changes what you do
  • Blending black and white to Shades of Gray™
  • Getting it done vs. doing it right
  • Organizing by category (and filter!)
  • Lengthening the gap between impulse and action
  • The Challenges that lead to Procrastination – and how to Sherlock the relationship between scores to get your client back in ACTION
  • Mood management & Boggle™
  • Coaching to attentional differences

Coaches who continue to certification and licensing will get credit for ALL lab hours completed, even before you sign up for additional classes, but it is not necessary to sign up for certification to get benefit from the kind of mentor coaching offered in The Challenges Lab.

Challenges Inventory™ Certification & Licensing

Posted here on the ADDCoach.com website, The Challenges Inventory™ was designed to be used with the guidance of a coach trained to work with it and licensed to do so.

The Inventory consists of a series of questions answered according to a graduated rating system. The scores are plotted on a grid that gives a visual representation of relative functioning in key areas, identifying a client's specific combination of challenges, most of which are problematic to some extent in most ADDults.

The questions fall into nine different categories, the mastery of which could be useful to ADDer and non-ADDer alike: time management, transition management, organization & task completion, stress tolerance, perfectionism/black & white thinking, attentional/focusing issues, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

The real power of this tool comes from understanding how to translate the scores into information your can use in your coaching. It is the particular relationship between the scores that you will sherlock to coach your clients to develop the systems that will be effective.

For example, because of the particular way it relates to some of their other scores, a client whose impulsivity score is 93 may find that impulsivity is a great deal more troubling to them than you find it is for you – even though your impulsivity score may have been 132 – and will respond to interventions quite different from the ones you might develop for yourself.

The Certification & Licensing Series will teach you how to interpret the scores, and train you to deliver a 2-hour session to a client who takes the Inventory here on the website, locating you from your listing on the page of those who are certified and licensed to do so. Once you illuminate the areas that need focus and your recommendations for a path through them, a great many of the people who hire you for an initial consultation will want to continue with coaching – with you!

You will also be licensed to use the Inventory with your clients and as a tool to attract new clients through other means. Administering and interpreting The Challenges Inventory™ can become a lucrative income center to augment the rest of your coaching practice.

The training classes to come will target each of the Challenges in depth, to teach the systems development skills necessary to coach clients through these areas individually and in combination, augmented by required Challenges Lab hours to make sure you become fully proficient before certification and licensing.

The first of the series to be offered, The Challenges Lab, designed to support the rest, is offered now and described above. Coaches who begin with The Challenges Lab and continue to certification and licensing will get credit for ALL lab hours completed, even before the additional classes have been released.
